The most important Chinese calligraphy rules are the following:;欲速则不达 ‘yu su ze bu da’ which means ‘haste brings no success’ or ‘haste is waste’ and
放松一下 ‘fang song yi xia’ which means ‘take a break and relax’.
Chinese calligrapher are used to apply this rule as often as possible to keep their hand movements calm and stay concentrated and focused on the same time as soon as they are painting. If you choose the right traditional way to paint or write as well, you will appreciate these brush rests while doing a break. There is no smirching anymore as brush rest holds the brush when you are temporarily stopping painting or writing. Try it and you will see how comfortable painting and calligraphy can be.
